If you tuned into tonight's show, then you'll know that Valeria made a little surprise appearance at the very end, offering some teases about what y'all can expect on Monday night. Well, after the show ended, the two of us headed over to the Deval Patrick Committee Offices over on Court Street (55 Court St. Suite 310 - in case you wanna check it out). We arrived with one objective, and one objective only - to put our money where our mouth is. Basically, we took our love for Obama, and translated it into roughly an hour of volunteering (it's all it takes people!).
But before we get to what happened once we were there, it should be noted that on our way we walked by the storefront of the McCain Victory Boston HQ on Tremont Street (across from the Park Street T Stop and next to McDonald's). Surprisingly, there were a whole bunch of people inside, which was nice to see, as their office is usually empty as hale. So, it's good to see that they're trying to keep up with Obama's campaign.
Sidenote: this is me, Valeria, trying to sound as objective as possible. In reality, I know that McCain doesn't stand a chance.
Let's just start out by saying that the Deval Patrick offices are maaaaaaad nice. Behold their slick combination of campaign memorabilia, bright colors, and art deco.
DUDE - I WANT TO WORK IN THIS OFFICE SO BAD! I WOULD GO TO WORK EVERYDAY IF THIS IS WHAT MY BUILDING LOOKED LIKE
So, because Candace is a bit more shy than Valeria, she did some data entry while Valeria made some calls to New Hampshire voters. But hey, don't knock it y'all! Data entry is important - all the information collected during phone calls needs to go somewhere! Also, where do you think they get all the information to make phone calls with? Huh? Exactly.
sorry that it's blurry - it was taken with a phone
So while Candace did some data entry, Valeria made some phone calls. Most people won't home, or just really didn't want to talk with her. But there were two really great calls. The first one was a 72 year old man who explained that he had voted Democratic all his life, then continued to speak about how he doesn't like to vacation in Costa Rica, because even though they have really good PR for tourism, it's still a third-world country (his words, bbs). But he was very much informed about New Hampshire politics. The second memorable phone call was with a 70ish year old woman, who had just finished battling cancer and just ended her chemotherapy treatment. When asked if she wanted an absentee ballot to vote, she was adamantly responded with a "No." She was going to make it to the polls, so that she could vote for her Obama. Basically, she was adorable. All my prayers and hopes are with her, and I hope her will wins out and helps her beat cancer and that she makes it to the polls around the corner from her home in November.
The night ended with some sweet swag.
Moral of the story? Volunteering = free stuff.
You can find out how to volunteer for Obama right here.

I'm a little shy about calling people while they're devouring their half-frozen TV dinners but I still care!
