Oh, Yes They Did! EPIC edition 11/17/08

Thanks to everyone who listened in tonight to "Oh, Yes They Did!" We got a record number of IMs (which basically means it was more than 2) so we were super excited. Here is the playlist in case you missed it:

1. Don't Dumb Down - The Rumble Strips
2. The Only Living Boy in New York - Simon and Garfunkle
3. New York City - T. Rex
4. It's Hard to Live in the City - Albert Hammond Jr.

Good lord! The most epic of Monday shows. As you may know, the ladies of OYTD spent the weekend in NYC tearin’ up the town. Candace hails from the city that never sleeps so they stayed at her place – hence all the reports from “my room” in our blipBack videos.

Now as you all know, we love us some Mark Ronson. Not only is he a fierce DJ and sick producer but he’s also extremely attractive, has an amazing wardrobe and a sexy British accent - the combination is an unbeatable ovary killer. Now we can't reveal all the details of the adventure (that will come in a later blog) What we can tell you is this: Valeria and I headed down to EVR on Friday and met two fellow lurkers (shout out to Sadie!)We made signs together to get his attention from the booth and it totally worked! We got to have our moment in the sun and be a part of the show for a hot second. We also got out picture cause y'all know - pics or it didn't happen. We also have audio proof. Check it out!

We just have to give a shout out to our girl Sadie – our fellow plate holder. We met her that night but we have a serious bond because of this experience. Our meeting was fate. We could have not completed our mission without 4 people to hold those plates.
Also big ups to Mark Ronson, Tennessee Thomas, Ricky Wilson, Charlie Waller, Blue Jemz and the whole EVR crew. Everyone was so gracious and nice –actually inviting us to be a part of the show for a hot second. EVR : Breaking hipster stereotypes one show at a time.

Now for what we all know YOU want to know about – Gold Medal Mel’s birthday party. Now I have to be honest when I say I was hella nervous before going to this. First of all, we knew we were going to be around swimmers so you KNOW you can’t be looking a fool. These people are in SHAPE. We were all so self conscious we were about to go buy ourselves some LZR Racers to wear underneath our clothes - smoothe that shiz out! Also, I was like GMM is a baller he ain’t gonna know who we are! Once we get to the party of course GMM is the first person I see but I’m too nervous to talk to him right away so we do a lap (no pun intended.) Of course like the idiot I am what do I do? I bump into GMM by accident – not how I wanted to introduce myself. But being the wonderful man he started to chat with us. Once we told him we were the girls from OYTD he said something along the lines of “let’s go to the back”- I thought either we’re going to be drugged and clubbed to death or something amazing is about to happen. We sit down with Mel and chat for a bit – the second we mention watching Lochte’s favorite film “The Notebook” before coming to the party, he whips out a camera because it’s “too good” not to have on film. Basically we were vlogging with the man himself. We have been catapulted into the blogosphere, y'all!

Now to who was AT the party. The two most important people we need to discuss are Matt Grevers and Erik Vendt. Matt Grevers was a gentle giant. He was an absolute sweetheart. Very sociable and talkative – definitely knows how to work it out where they walk, out there they run out there they stay all day in the sun. We sort of talked trash about Ricky Berens to him but it was all in good fun so he didn’t seem to mind. He was very gracious about taking a picture with us. We told him it was for our blog and he asked if we were going to write about his drunken antics - no no, none of that here (he wasn't actually drunk btw.) We also talked about how tall he was and asked if he was doing alright the the low ceilings. He said he was fine and we pointed out the fact that, being so tall, he could scope out the entire room just by turning around (“Oh I see that person over there in the northeast corner.) No grievances about Grevers but we MUST vent about Erik Vendt. Now I’m sure that Erik Vendt is really a nice guy on a normal day to day basis – from the videos and interviews I’ve seen of him this seems to be the case (even though he is the other man in the Phlochte bromance.) Mel’s lovely wife, Tiffany, informed us that he’s “shy” so maybe that’s why he was not pleased when Valeria started talking to him but he was giving off a vibe that was NOT cool. After just a few seconds of exposure to his bad-itude it became clear that Phelps’ love affair with Lochte developed because Vendt was probably an abusive boyfriend to our Phelpsicle. Mikey needs a man who can appreciate art of lil Wayne and the romance of ‘The Notebook.’ The kind of man who can openly admit he broke his ankle chasing his dog around. Sure Erik was probably sweet to Michael when cameras were around (as evidence by all post-swim hugging photos) but once he got a few drinks in him he’d be belligerent – putting Mikey down, telling him he doesn’t dress up for him anymore and maybe even saying "make me a sandwich, woman!" every now and again. No wonder Michael’s been slutting around on Lochte - he has trust issues because of his torrid affair with Vendt! Why do you think Michael started doing weights? SELF DEFENSE! I know you guys saw how ripped JLo got in "Enough" when her husband was beating her. Vendt is short but you should never underestimate a short man - They’ll go straight for the knees. We can't really blame Vendt for having a bad-itude. It must be difficult seeing your ex-lover cavorting around/hanging all over a delicious upgrade such as Lochte - heartbreak manifests itsself in interesting ways. We still got a picture - for you guys, for you! You should be thankful we did this because he was already very displeased with us and Mel pretty much had to blow a tranquilizer dart into his neck to get him to do it. Bless you Mel, bless you. (P.S. totally bitter about the fact that Vendt looks so cute in the picture. No wonder Phelps put up with his shenanigans for so long.) Check out Rudy Garcia-Tolson in our picture! He's a very accomplished athlete's whose gotten his fair share of medals at the Paralympics. He was very cool and chatted with Valeria for a bit. He also made us feel HELLA lazy when he told her he had run four miles that morning - we only watched "the Notebook." For those of you who are wondering, no, Lochte was not there. Of course he wasn't! Y'all know the boy is my unicorn - we can never be in the same room or the world will implode. Sorry to anyone who was at the party and wanted to see them some Lochte - you can blame me for that. And you know Phelps was up in NYC probably hanging out with some questionably attractive girls getting his drink on and eating Pizza (the kind he calls NY pizza but in actuality is just Pizza in NY.) As for bb Cullen, he was probably getting crunk with his boy Lochte. We can't hate him for that.

P.S. Y’all know we have been hating on Ricky Berens ever since he deleted us as facebook friends. Um… yeah no love for Mr. Berens. He shows up at the party with a “posse” of sorts, drank himself a soda and peaced. By the way, he was looking mad pale. I don’t know if it was the lighting or what but the Ricky I know is tan and delicious. This Ricky looked malnourished. He also looks like a total Bro. I can’t blame the kid, he does go to school in Texas so I’m sure that has something to do with his popped collar and Northface jacket. Basically he needed a spray tan and a new wardrobe. Also, I know he’s 19 but he looks like a BABY. Definitely cannot lust over bb Ricky anymore – he is a child. We should point out, however, that he was polite. Valeria accidentally bumped into him and he said sorry and “hello” to her. Can’t say the same for Mr. Vendt (feel the wrath!)

Do you want to kill yourself/drown your sorrows in a pint of Hagen Daaz? Listen to this. Later on in the night we got a chance to chat with Mel’s wife, Tiffany, and she told us about how they met. Apparently she met Mel through her ex boyfriend (scandalous!) They were friends for a little while and then they went to a film festival together in New York. The festival was a week – by the end of the week they were talking about when they were getting married and they were married two and a half months later. For those of you who are about to physically harm yourselves because you live a sad lonely life and that story just pushed you over the edge, just try and think happy thoughts - we'll get through this together. We are officially declaring Mel and Tiffany the love rivals of Barack and Michelle. Epic couples.

We had a great time and to top it all off, we got a shoutout on Mel's facebook!
No, Mel, we're the thankful ones!

We've come to a few conclusions thanks to our epic weekend. If you want things to happen you have to make them happen! We took our shot at meeting Mark Ronson and it worked out better than we could have ever imagined. Another conclusion we came to is that when you're being a lurker you cannot appear to be a lurker. When you're with famous people they already know they're famous! You can't be sweating them all night! Hence why we were chillin' with Mark's crew - we played it cool and thus appeared cool (even if we were freaking out on the inside.) Keep it real, guys!

P.S. Totally kicking myself because bb Cullen (aka Chocolate Love) was at a swim clinic on Saturday 2 blocks from my house. TWO BLOCKS! That's right kids, Cullen effing Jones was at Asphalt Green's Aqua Center and I was unaware. I used to go to Asphalt green all the time as a kid! I would illegally ride my bike around the running track while my dad played soccer with his South American cohorts. At least I can say I swam in the same pool as Cullen. We may have swam in the same pool about 9 years apart from each other, but it still happened!

P.P.S. check out a rough cut of GMM's promo for OYTD!

Oh, Yes They Did! 10/27/08

Thanks to everyone who listened in tonight! Shout out to Bonnie who IMed us! Here is the playlist for tonight's show in case you missed it:

1. Read My Mind - The Killers (In honor of Candace's concert/stalking experience)
2. I've Got My Mind Set On You - George Harrison
3. Randy Scouse Git - The Monkees
4. A Well Respected Man - The Kinks
5. Hounds of Love - The Futureheads

Ah, another lovely evening over at WECB. Candace told a personal anecdote of her concert experience from this past weekend (a rare treat on OYTD) She went to NYC this weekend to see her favorite band The Killers with some of her pals. They waited in line for over 7 hours just to see the boys - this is what we call dedication, people! But their wait did not go unrewarded as they did get to meet the band after the show. They waited outside a stage door of sorts and took pictures with 3 of the 4 band members as they left the venue. Candace gave Ronnie (the drummer and her favorite band member) a special t shirt as a gift to which he responses with "I'm gonna fuckin' where this. And when you see me wear it you're gonna be be like 'I fuckin' made that!'" Now... she didn't make the shirt but we think Ronnie might have had a few drinks before exiting the venue. Time will only tell if he does but it was awesome to say the least.

What would an episode of OYTD be without some talk of the USMOST? This time we got a little serious. We wondered why Cullen Jones hasn't gotten the props he so rightfully deserves. He is, of course, the second African American man to win a gold medal in swimming (and just the 3rd African American to make the US Olympic swim team!) I mean, we all know that Michael Phelps throws a big shadow but come on, that's an important accomplishment and people need to be talking to about it. It seems like Mr. Jones got screwed out some serious attention. Maybe he would have gotten some more press coverage if he had won an individual gold... or if he wasn't the slowest leg of that relay, or if they hadn't almost lost before Lezak killed at the end "keeping Michael Phelps' dream of 8 golds alive" but come on people! Cullen Jones will be in the history books! Sure Michael Phelps will be too, but there's a different kind of significance that Cullen Jones has and we just think that people need to pay more attention to that. I mean look at that swim team... one of these things is not like the others and it's Cullen Jones. He's bringing diversity to a sport that has little to none. Apparently, less than 2% of all registered swimmers in the US are minorities! We have to give it up to Cullen for doing his part to bring diversity to swimming. He established "The Cullen Jones Diversity Tour" this year and according to the website the program works to teach kids about "learning to swim, drowning prevention, swim team access, swimming as an alternate choice for athletic activities and excellence, health benefits of swimming, social environments that will foster friendships for a lifetime in swimming, increase self esteem and many other topics." Considering minorities are 4 times more likely to drown, we think this is pretty important. Hopefully now that Nike is out swimming he'll land a deal with Speedo. They could both definitely benefit from that partnership and we think we all need to see a little more of Cullen around here. Luckily, Johnson & Johnson recognized Cullen's marketability and used him in an adorable commercial. Some other Olympians were used too but... we don't really care about them. Check out Cullen's commercial as a part of their "Thanks, Mom" campaign.

Big news y'all! For those of you who are loyal to Ryan Lochte and are in the Facebook group Jeahmaica you may be pleased to know that that "His Majesty the King" Ryan Lochte may actually be Ryan Lochte. Just the other day we found out that Cullen Jones became friends with His Majesty the King proving (maybe) that this particular Ryan Lochte is not an impostor! That's right y'all, Ryan Lochte is actually in Jeahmaica reigning over all of you. All hail his Majesty!
Speaking of Ryan Lochte, we did yet another theatrical reading of his blog. This particular entry is one of my personal favorites because it mentions Mr. Jones and uses the phrase "BALLIN!" when speaking of his wardrobe. FYI while reading his blogs I stumbled upon an old entry in which he spells the word "weekend," w-e-e-k-a-n-d. Think about that for a second. I'm sure Ryan was a very special child considering in his famous story about "falling into swimming" he seems very proud of the fact that when slipping on ice, he didn't cry but laughed and splashed around in the water. Now I'm all for babies having a good temperament but it takes a very very special child to laugh when they're about to fall into an icy death.

Being that the election is so very close, we couldn't miss the opportunity to talk about our man Barack Obama. Valeria and Candace revealed that they like to have facebook wars in which they post videos of Barack Obama on eachother's walls. Not really a war per se but Barack always wins for being the most awesome/attractive/inspirational. In a recent video Valeria posted, Barack tells us about the last time he cried and it is nothing short of amazing.

First throwin' down for Michelle and now crying for bb Malia? I love you Barack!

We also talked about our man Michael Phelps who happens to be in a new commercial for Guitar Hero. Now lord knows the sight of Phelps in a dress shirt, pantless and smiling is enough to cause our ovaries to explode but has anyone noticed that a lot of these swimmers seem to be extremely awkward on dry land? I mean I know they spend a lot of time in the pool but good God! Supposedly Reezy tried to impress some girls by showing them his backstroke on the dancefloor. Really? On the dancefloor? I don't even understand how that would come up in conversation. Well I suppose if showing someone your Escalade could result in getting a BJ maybe he thought showing off his backstroke would get him a little somethin' somethin' but whose to say.

One of our girls IMed us and asked what we thought about Reezy's chest - did he or did he not wax it? Valeria seemed pretty sure that he did seeing as how he never as the stubble that would result from shaving. Candace remained unsure -is he just naturally hairless? She wasn't sure. We don't mind a little body hair here and there. For instance, when Phelpsicle isn't in serious racing mode he has a bit of hair and nobody's complaining cause boy is still lookin' fine. Plus he doesn't have much so he keeps it under wraps. Just enough for to be sexy not enough to be Sasquatch. Speaking of hair, we also talked about how we prefer the hair on their actual scalps. We both agreed that Reezy with short hair is magically delicious while Reezy with curly hair needs to be tamed a little. His $500 haircut was tasty but when left to his own devices it can get out of control (we have photographic evidence.) As for Phelps, Valeria feels that when it comes to Mikey, the less hair the better. Candace was torn - there's so many looks to choose from! Right now, his little one-inch tuft of hair he's rockin' is very endearing, especially when parted to the side. But for some strange reason she seems to enjoy when he has a Beatle-esque mop top. Can't really explain why; the heart wants what it wants.

In other news, Gold Medal Mel announced that GoldMedalMel.com would be launching soon. We're psyched!

P to the S we are trying to sneak into the Golden Goggles. And by sneak, I mean get press passes.

The Swimming Song

The ladies (and few gents) over at ONTD_Olympics never really cease to inspire these posts.

The other day in one of our infamous "off topic" posts, someone posed the question "which songs remind you of the Olympics?" Now usually for me, I make pretty strong associations between songs and events and sometimes with people. Usually what happens is this "event" of sorts will be going on and I'll just happen to be listening to a specific song on heavy rotation at the same time, thus the two become linked. This time, however, the song I associate most closely with the games was one that I had in my song library for a pretty long time and didn't make that connection until after the Olympics were actually over.

Allow me to explain. In preparation for our first show of "Oh, Yes They Did!" I wanted to, of course, discuss the games (being that the USMOST was basically my 24/7 for 8 days of the games and countless days following, it just seemed appropriate) but I also wanted to dedicate a song to the boys. Honestly, I thought all of the songs that NBC had chosen for the Olympics pretty much all sucked so... I definitely wouldn't be using any of those. Plus, I wanted to be a little more original and choose something of my own. We could, of course, go the comedic route (which we later did) and choose a song by Lil Wayne or Young Jeezy - two well known favorites of Phlochte - but for this show I wanted to play something that was a bit more serious. I mean we love to poke fun at our swimmer boys but all joking aside, watching them this summer made us all incredibly proud and even a bit emotional at times (not gonna lie, I totally cried when Phelps won his 8th gold medal) Though I could have lived without NBC playing Peter Gabriel's "Your Eyes" during a Phelpsian montage, I think the majority of us felt and knew that we were witnessing something pretty special. Hey, they make you wait four years - it better be special!

In my ongoing search to find the perfect song I looked to my own music library and low and behold - I found it. The song was sweet, a little sad and all about my favorite Olympic sport: Swimming. It was the first song we played on the show and I was very honored to learn that a listener was inspired to download it after hearing us play it. Even though it might make you a little sad and nostalgic for those two weeks in August I think it'll bring back some great memories too. For those of you who didn't hear it on the show, here is "The Swimming Song" by Loudon Wainwright III

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering. Loudon is Rufus' dad.

And P to the S, Cullen Jones will forever be my hero for being a proud member of the facebook group "That's What Those Frenchies Get;" a group dedicated to the fact that the USMOST destroyed the French in the 4x100 freestyle relay after Alain Bernard started talkin' some trash.

The Art of the Speedo

Something very sad has been brought to my attention. Speedos all across the world are being abused!

I was watching that godawful show "Life on Mars" last night - why I did this, I really can't explain - this is the show about the cop who gets hit by a car and lands up in 1973 and can't figure out how to get back to 2008. Now if movie memory serves, I would think all he needs to do is get hit by a car AGAIN but anyway... I digress.

So I'm watching this horrendous TV show and all of the sudden I see a man running through the park trying to evade the cops - wearing a speedo. HOLD. THE. PHONE. My brain could not properly process this... I'm watching network television... I see a Speedo... where is my beloved USMOST?

The main problem I had with this is that after the Olympics my brain had mad the connection of "Speedo = beautiful man inside said Speedo." Thanks to Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and the other cuties of the USMOST I had forgotten that uglies frequently try their hand at Speedo-wearing. This man was NOT beautiful, nor was he in any shape to be wearing the spandex wonder.

Why must people do this?! The Speedo already has a bad reputation thanks to the fat, hairy old men who insist on wearing them - a stereotype the Olympic Swim team's abs have worked tirelessly to break. So again I ask WHY must the Speedo be abused by those who simply should not be wearing them?! I almost ripped my own eyes out when I realized Harvey Keitel was wearing a pair. That's right. HARVEY KEITEL. Oh hi, Harvey. Are you competing today? Is that why you're wearing them? Oh you're not? You're just trying to frighten the life out of me? Thought so.

I worry just a tad about how popular these things could possibly be. We all know that Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps do ads for Speedo (aside from being walking well.. swimming billboards.) Actually, they do a lot. And some of the ladies like Natalie Coughlin and Katie Hoff do too. I hope the whole "if I get these I'll look like them!" idea behind advertising doesn't work because in this case... you won't! And if you're thinking "Hey! I'm just like Michael Phelps. I eat 10,000 calories a day" you need to pump the breaks and completely rethink this decision. Sure you'll be wearing the same swimsuit as them but, hate to break it to you, paying 30 bucks for it does not equal 4,000 laps or 5 hours of swimming time a day. They look the way they do for a reason and it's not the Speedo! Sure they look damn good in a pair but that's because they work out like animals so they can wear something that's skin tight and hella low - seriously ya'll I thought NBC was gonna have to blur out the goods or cut to commercial cause I was almost certain MP's junk was gonna make it to air any second during the Olympics. But anyway, these guys don't have to worry about lovehandles like the rest of us. The things are tight, bb and you're beer belly just ain't cuttin' it. Just because you have the means to buy a speedo, doesn't mean you should. I highly doubt that on your Long Island vacation you'll be doing any hardcore racing, so leave the Speedos at home. Hey, I'm sure Michael and Reezy don't wear those things to beach (although if I were ever lucky enough to be on the same beach as them I pray they would.) Leave it to the pros, kids!

In closing, I would just like to remind the men of this world that the wearing of the Speedo is a delicate art form and these men are artists! Once you've seen a Da Vinci, you simply cannot settle for a paint-by-number version of the Mona Lisa, ok?
Is there a reason why they're all greased up? Not that I mind. Also is there a reason why Reezy's speedos always look like he borrowed them from a little boy? Seriously they always look mad small on him! Again, NOT complaining because that's pretty much the greatest thing I've ever seen. I'm going to blaim it on his ghetto booty. That's a lot of ass to fit in a small suit.

On a lighter and lovelier note, right now Speedo has a really cute campaign going on called "Stop the Clock" that features none other than golden boy Michael Phelps (as well as some other swimmers like Stephanie Rice and Katie Hoff.) I guess the idea of it is "Hey! Our athletes aren't swimming machines! They have fun too!" and what do they do to have fun? Swim some more. But this time they're on a beach so I suppose that implies leisure. Yeah that makes sense. Personally, if I were stuck in a pool for hours and hours on end the last thing I would want to do on my vacation is swim. You would not find me anywhere near a pool. No hot tub, no beach. Water would be reserved for showers only - and I'm sure just the sound of the water coming down would freak me out. You'd find me in the hotel bar. I would just get absolutely wasted - no water products anywhere near me, just alcohol! Alcohol and candy. But again, I digress.

Unfortunately there's so sign of Reezy in the campaign but the pictures of Phelpsicle are so precious that you might not even care. Check out some pictures and video at speedo80.com. And thank the lord they are selling swim trunks. Your stomach still may never look anything like Phelps' but those trunks he's rockin' are much more forgiving on normal folks.

Let's go shopping!

Do I love a sale? Almost as much as I love men in speedos. Almost. So as you may know I am currently obsessed with these vintage style Oympic t shirts by Altru Apparel. "How did you find them, Candace?" you might ask. Well, I was on a little vacation with my sister the weekend after the Olympics had ended, in Asbury Park, NJ. We were walking around the boardwalk and stopped into the this little clothing shop called Style Rocket. This is where I saw the shirts and I HAD to have them. Luckily (or sadly) since the Olympics were over they were on sale.

I discovered last night that they're finally on sale on the Style Rocket website! I literally checked this website every night - I want to snatch as many of these bad boys for myself as I can.

Seriously guys these shirts are awesome. They come in all different designs - each design features a different "Olympiad" and hosting city. I suggest you do a little research before buying certain styles because there are shirts that feature years that were somewhat controversial like 1968 in Mexico and the 1972 Olympics in Munich (which ironically was where Mark Spitz won 7 golds). But other than that these shirts are awesome and they've dropped from the pricey $37 price tag to $26 (not bad and shipping is free!). They're super comfortable and they just look bad ass (as evidence by the picture of Valeria and myself 2 entries down). The shirts come in both men and women's sizes but the sizes are limited since they're on sale. Check them out at http://www.stylerocket.com/

If you have the extra money, Altru Apparel's website has more styles in more colors. At this site they're $34 as opposed to the non-sale $37 Style Rocket had them up for, but they've got styles that feature more locations and some more colors too. Check out their website

I can't make any promises but...y'all know Reezy appreciates some high fashion...
That suit is pretty swaggerific. And you know he has more where that came from. White on black with a splash of red? Mad style.

Oh, Yes They Did! American Edition 10/15/08

Tonight we had another fabulous installment of "Oh Yes They Did!" on WECB. The theme for tonight's show was America. Here's the playlist in case you missed it:

1. Lil' Wayne - Got Money (Dedicated to Reezy)
2. 20th Century Boy - T. Rex
3. If You're Out There - John Legend
4. American Boy - Estelle
5. American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Where to start? We talked about a plethora of topics! For starters as you all know Valeria and Candace enjoy FB stalking Olympic swimmers. This week marked a milestone - Cullen Jones accepted Candace's friend request! Woot woot! This (almost) makes up for the fact that Ricky Berens made his profile super private and deleted all of us in the process (boo!) We forgive, Ricky, but we never forget.

We also talked about our favorite supercouple - Phlochte. The thought crossed our minds, however, that perhaps there is another occupying the heart of Mr. Ryan Lochte. Considering his insane fanboy behavior, grill wearing and incessant namedropping, could it be none other than Lil Wayne that Ryan loves the most? What do you guys think? Could Phlochte be threatened by a potential "Lil Reezy" super coupling? You decide. Or maybe they could just be a triple. Lil Wayne could be the chocolate fudge on their double scoop sundae.

Since tonight is the last presidential debate we talked about our favorite politician Mr. Barack Obama. There is this AMAZING video of Obama basically throwing down for his woman when the GOP is trying to talk smack about her. It's kind of sexy... not gonna lie about it.

Check out this picture. He's a good looking man! Just throwing it out there. Is it wrong to be attracted to a Presidential candidate? I guess not since JFK was gettin' with lots of chicks! Valeria and Candace are hoping that Obama will bring it in the debate tonight.

We also talked about how he's adorable because he actually knows who the Jonas Brothers are. His daughter, Malia, is a big fan and backstage at the DNC he talked about a bet he had going with her that she would FREAK OUT if she met Nick (who also happens to be Candace's favorite - gross.)

At the Democratic National Convention Michelle said she had a "surprise" for the girls. Malia very excitedly responded with "JONAS BROTHERS?!" alas it was not.... it was her father via satellite. Just as good some would say. The girls did, however, get to meet the famous brothers when their mother was interviewed on Ellen a few weeks later. Wonder who won that $5 bet Barack and Malia had going...

After talking about Obama we wondered about the political affiliation of our favorite swimmer boys. Candace and Valeria think (and hope) that Phelps is a democrat - even though we're not sure how being from Baltimore might influence his personal opinions. We found out that Reezy isn't even registered to vote. Can't say we were very surprised. We assumed that he had made plans to register but was too busy picking up his whip from the shop with its brand new "JEAH 7" license plate to do it. Oh well. Maybe in 2012. Maybe he could put his talents to good use and do some artwork for the Obama campaign. You know.. some of that "artists for Obama" type stuff. I hear his drawings are out of this world.

We were also told by a listener that if we really wanted to get a laugh we should look up his driving violations. We'll definitely have to look into that and report back.

On a personal note, Candace revealed she had a dream about Reezy. Apparently they were dating and she was the worst, most non-supportive girlfriend on the planet. He broke a world record, called her and she wasn't feelin' it. Needless to say our bb Reezy was PISSED. He went on a rant about how she was the first person he called and she didn't even care. Which leads us to wonder a) why was she such a bitch? and b) why wasn't she at the actual event? SKETCHY! Michael is obviously a much better girlfriend. Just goes to a show, us girls can't compete with Phlochte.

Oh, Yes They Did! Olympic Edition 10/13/08

Jeah jeah jeah! Thanks to everyone who listened in tonight to the premier show of "Oh, Yes They Did!" Here is the playlist from tonight's show

1. The Swimming Song - Loudon Wainwright III (Candace dedicated this one to the USMOST)
2. Crackerbox Palace - George Harrison
3. Long Before Rock n Roll - Mando Diao
4. Yeah You - N.E.R.D.
5. Boys and Girls in Love - The Rumble Strips.

Tonight was all about our Olympic obsessions. We talked about
Phelps and of course, Reezy. Not only did we talk about Reezy -we had a very special 'JEAH!' sound effect that made it's way into the show and did a special theatrical reading of his blog.

We also played a little snippit of "The World According to Lochte;" that wonderful NBC produced profile that played during the Olympics (which can be found in HQ here.) In addition we played a little bit of Out of the Pool in which Ryan gives us a tour of his lovely home, cribs style (tap tap MAGIC.) Just in case you didn't know, his room is the master bedroom. Watch the amazingness below:

We literally presented some breaking news on the show. Our program director informed us that while in High school her friend was invited by none other than golden boy Michael Phelps to see his Escalade. This trip "escaladed" into her giving him a BJ. She is now a lesbian. NO LIES.

Of course, no Olympic show would be complete without a discussion about the OTP that is Phlochte. Everyone knows that Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte are meant to be but the ladies of OYTD were concerned about the fact that Phelps has been slutting it up with some of the other swimmers (as evidence by pictures of him with Erik Vendt and Garrett Weber-Gale at the White House.) Get it together Michael! You can't expect a catch like Ryan to wait around forever! They seem so in love in Olympic Slash... I just don't understand..

sigh... remember the good times?

We also discussed our infatuation with Gossip Girl and Valeria's love for Ed Westwick. GG was filming in New York this week and it just so happened that Candace was home for the holiday weekend. She snuck a peak at Leighton Meester (and some other people we don't really care about) filming some scenes for the show. Just so you know, Leighton Meester is FLAWLESS in person. Girl is fierce.

In other news, Valeria was presented with a very special gift during today's show - a vintage style Olympic t shirt to match Candace's.

These shirts are designed by Altru Apparel and can be purchased at www.altruapparel.com or at Stylerocket.com

Check it out y'all

Valeria and I were very much into the Olympics this summer. One main reason for that: The US Men's Olympic Swim Team. I was never a big fan of the Speedo but I realized this was just because the only people I had ever seen in Speedos were about 90 pounds from their goal weight yet insisted on wearing the spandex wonders. The 2008 Olympics opened my eyes to the wonders of the Speedo and to the glorious men who wore them.

Michael Phelps (or as I like to call him, Phelpsicle) was by far the biggest hit at the Olympics but there is another swimmer who I have grown quite fond of in the past few weeks - Ryan Lochte.

To be honest I was so distracted by my obsession with Phelps' thighs, ungodly long torso and the near 5,000 NBC produced profiles on Phelps that were shown about every 5 minutes that I hadn't noticed Lochte during the Olympics (though I did remember him winning a gold in the 200m backstroke - so y'all know he's fierce.) I did, however, discover him shortly after the games thanks to the wonderful people over at ONTD_Olympics, the sheer genius that exists within the video below and the man who created it: Gold Medal Mel.

Gold Medal Mel, or Melvin Stewart, is a Gold Medalist from the 92 Olympics in Barcelona and is chock full of swimming knowledge and updates about what's going in swimming world. He made an amazing video in honor Mr. Lochte. GMM explains Lochte's appeal and, in the process, persuades non-believers to join the cult of the Lochtenator. It's just about one of my favorite things in the world.

It is with great pleasure that I present to you Lochte Love
