I just want to give America a great big hug!

It's been 4 days and I haven't calmed down! I thought by now it might have sunken in a little more but it really hasn't. I'm still, as Valeria says, a wreck and crying all the time. I just cannot believe that Barack Obama is going to be my President. And when I say that I really mean that he's my President. I feel like he belongs to me in a way that no other has. I think a lot of people feel that way. He's our guy. I'm not African-American so I won't pretend like I can truly understand the significance of his accomplishment but I am mixed race and I have an immigrant parent so, to me, he's always been my guy and now he's my President. I'm sure you guys don't really want to read about my personal feelings or political affiliations but this stuff is far too important to ignore. I mean, it really feels like all those things we've been taught about America are finally true. You can grow up to be anything you want - really. Well I mean, you have to work for it, and you have to be smart enough but if you are, there really isn't anything stopping you. Some people have been Debbie Downers, asking "Did people vote for him just because he's Black?" I'm sure there were some people who felt like that was a plus. There will always be those people but oh my god it was him. If it were anyone else I don't think it would have been the same. His race alone could not have created the kind of support that it did. I mean the crowds he drew... I've never seen anything like it. I was voting for this man not for a concept. The fact that he could possibly be the first African-American president was just the icing on an already amazing delicious cake. If you want to try and simplify it to being just about race then you really know nothing about this man, or us.

I've been thinking this whole time that Barack winning would mean so much for kids; that it would mean they would have no excuses and no limitations on their dreams for the future. But this idea was more of what adults had in mine for kids. Turns out, kids are very aware of what Barack's accomplishment means. Check out this clip from CNN where the kids from Ron Clark Academy (the same ones who sang "However you Like") explain what the Obama win means to them:

I am so obsessed with the Obama family it's unhealthy. I want to be them. I want to be as fierce as Michelle and I want a handsome husband like Barack (Presidential crush!) so we can have gorgeous babies like Malia and Sasha. Barack and Michelle are the best couple ever. I am so in love with their love. It's great to see a couple in politics that you know go home at night and actually like each other. Not only do they like each other, these guys love each other and it's so obvious. You can't fake that kind of love! It's like movie love! It's like The Notebook kind of love! There are pictures of them together that are so cute, I suggest not looking at if you're feeling lonely because you will literally kill yourself. That's right! Their love is so amazing it will either drive you to end it all or drown your sorrows in multiple pints of Haagen Daz. And not to be disrespectful (because I heart them so) but you know there was some Presidential loving going down on election night. Yeah I said it! They're married so it's ok. Plus their love produces beautiful babies so, why not? Honestly if I were Michelle I would be all over that all day all night. It's better that he's not married to me because if he were, he wouldn't have won this election. He wouldn't have had time to campaign! I would be on him all the time. That is a good looking man! No wonder their kids are so cute.

Speaking of cute kids, their family is A-MA-ZING. I was literally googling Sasha Obama last night. Googling her. She's like 7 years old! This goes way beyond the creepiness of my love for Nick Jonas. She's a baby! But I think she is the cutest little thing! Malia is gorgeous but Sasha is the sassy one. It's birth order - it's just fact. You know she is daddy's little girl. Just look at that face! You know she gets whatever she wants. I'll bet she's a mischievous little thing. She's gonna be starting some trouble at the White House. Not big trouble, just a little fun. After Michelle my-middle-name-is-fierce Obama spoke at the DNC, she and the girls had a little conversation with Barack via satellite. Check out what little Sasha does once she gets hold of the microphone. Sassy thing:

I am just so incredibly proud and excited that this is the first family. Look at them! Let their gorgeousness just wash all over you! Mm, feels good don't it?! This is the American Dream, people! And for once it feels real; that's the best part.
Needless to say I am feeling GREAT and to celebrate this glorious occasion I have made myself an Obama playlist on my iPod. Here are the songs:

1. Ooh Child - The Five Stairsteps
2. The Times They Are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan
3. If You're Out There - John Legend (I definitely recommend this one)
4. America - Simon and Garfunkle
5. If I Had a Hammer - Peter, Paul and Mary
6. If You're Going to San Fransisco - Scott McKenzie
7. Changes - David Bowie
8. Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
9. Wrote a Song for Everyone - Creedence Clearwater Revival
10. A Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

This post is Sasha approved!

By the way, that awesome "First" poster of Obama can be found at gotellmama.org along with lots of other amazing prints and T shirts.

Oh, Yes They Did! Post-Election Edition 11/5/08

Thanks to everyone who listened in tonight on this most historic of days. Here is the playlist in case you missed it:

1. Yes We Can - Will.I.Am
2. The Times They Are A Changing - Bob Dylan
3. Mister President - Amnesty
4. Burning for You - Blue Oyster Cult (for Bonnie)
5. Funky President - James Brown

Today was, of course, a special day for the ladies of OYTD. The B-Man was officially elected as the next President of the United States! Words cannot express how emotional and exciting this victory was not only for for us but for millions of Americans and people all over the world. We started off the show talking about where we were when we heard the news. Valeria was helping with news coverage for WEBN news so she was inundated with information the whole night. Even when she found out he won she wasn't emotional. It eventually hit her later in the evening and the tears came. Candace watched election coverage at home - flipping channels back and forth to see the electoral vote count. Her sister called to reassure her that he'd win but until CNN says its true - it ain't true! The instant CNN flashed on the screen that Obama won this chick cried like a little baby - for a long long time. Needless to say it was emotional for both the ladies of OYTD. Candace voted absentee and though Valeria is not eligible to vote yet she was doing her part all along spreading the word of the B-man; canvassing, working at phone banks and telling people about him (check our blog about volunteering.) So we'd just like to say thanks, America. You made a great choice!
Side note: According to their facebook profile pictures, as of November 5th 2008, a lot of my friends look exactly like Barack Obama! Interesting. Also, last night Cullen Jones' status message read "Cullen Jones bet it all on black." So did we, Cullen. So did we. The Obamas better invite Cullen over to the White House in 2009!

We had a very special guest on the show tonight. Mr. Jeff Penfield of Emerson's station WERS joined us for a segment we decided to call "A Male Perspective"

Objective: To gain insight into the male perspective on the perceived attractiveness of dudes we like
Procedure: Show Jeff pictures of said dudes and ask him who he thinks is hot, or hotter (depending on how many dudes)
Subjects: Jonas Brothers, Phlochte and Mark Ronson

First we showed Jeff a picture of the Jonas brothers and asked him to tell us which Jonas brother he thought was the most attractive. He took a while looking at the picture, I suspect because he was trying to decipher their ages so as not to come off as a pedophile. He said Nick looked too young (of course I have to disagree there) and eventually chose Kevin Jonas. We were both shocked and dismayed by this. He picked what most people would say is the ugliest of the 3 brothers. Even I, a fan of Nicholas Jonas can admit that Joe is simply beautiful! What are you thinking picking Kevin?! He liked the sideburns. I don't get it...

Next up was a clothed Michael Phelps - we were judging faces in this first round. Jeff was not too kind when judging our dear Phelpsicle. He said that Michael looked like Eli Manning and "kind of dumb." I'm not sure what it is is about Michael's face that exudes a lack of intelligence but I'm going to go ahead and say that it's that same thing that makes us girls say he's dorky and adorable (and the fact that Jeff is jealous!) He also didn't like his ears very much. Ouch, Jeff. That hit us right where it hurts. Next victim - a clothed Ryan Lochte. Apparently Lochte "looks even dumber" than Michael! Jeff said that he had a look on his face that suggested he was perhaps a bit cocky and thought he was special but was, in fact, "special ed." Now his opinion may have been skewed because Jeff was previously shown the "World According to Lochte" clip so perhaps his thoughts on Lochte's intelligence were influenced in some way... blame NBC not me. Oh yeah, and pretty sure Jeff is jealous! Just a side note, trying to find a picture of Ryan Lochte's face in my collection o' pictures made me feel particularly shallow because I realized that most of my pictures were well...not of his face.

Now in comparing Lochte and Phelps, Jeff revealed what most of us had already suspected - Lochte was, in Jeff's opinion, the more attractive man. Again, he was not feeling Phelpsicle's ears. If given the choice to hang out with one of the guys, our friend would rather chill with Phelps because he seemed like he could "hold a conversation." See Michael! You're good at lots of things! Swimming, eating... getting random dudes to say that they'd hang out with you if forced to choose between you and Lochte. Lots of things.

Now to the good stuff. We wanted to put Jeff - a straight male - in the most awkward position as possible. So of course, I made him compare their bodies. And what other picture to use than one from Men's Health Journal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that this photo shoot was sponsored by Johnson and Johnson cause they look just about HOSED down with baby oil in some of those pictures. Anyway we showed him this picture and though he was visibly uncomfortable, he agreed to judge their bodies. Again, Lochte won out for having a better physique. Jeff didn't like Phelps' lanky frame (even though I do!) because he thought it looked awkward and that he'd be awkward at doing "things" (what "things" he would not say. What do you think he was talking about? I know what I was thinking!) Jeff thought Lochte's 6 pack (8 pack to be exact) was impressive. Want proof that men and women look at different things? Ask who had better thighs. When we asked Jeff this, he said he couldn't tell a difference. Oh Jeff, you silly silly boy. There is a world of difference!

Now of course we have to factor in the fact that Jeff is a boy and he doesn't understand the adorable factor us girls do. That is, when choosing pictures to show him we tried to be as objective as possible - not choosing pictures where they were making particularly "cute" faces that a boy's brain just wouldn't understand ie: Lochte's nose crinkling. A boy just could not appreciate how damn cute that is! Getting back to our study...

Last man up for judgment was Mark Ronson. To our surprise, Jeff was very fond of our boy Mark in his herringbone Jacket and Beatles haircut. He was much kinder to Mr. Ronson than to our swimmer boys. I distinctly remember him using the words "I'm feelin' this" at some point during the Mark Ronson viewing. He was less kind to the New York hipster version of our Mark Ronson. He despised the tousled locks that us ladies love so much. It seems that Jeff was very much into Ronson's mod style - yes to tailored suits, no to messy hair and scarves. Jeff likes a man of style - which could explain why he was so harsh on our swimmer boys cause lord knows they can't dress their way out of a paper bag. The clothes make the man.

On the topic of swimmers, we've gotten some complaints that we haven't been giving enough love to Garrett Weber-Gale. Now you all know that I have been quite bitter toward GWG since Phelpsicle was seen cavorting around with him at the White House when he should have been canoodling with his lover, Ryan Lochte. But I've decided to put that behind me and see what this young man is all about because after all, he is quite cute and was part of that fierce relay teem in Beijing. Unfortunately, I have yet another bone to pick with Mr. Garrett Weber-Gale! I recently viewed a couple of his cooking videos on youtube. I naively thought they'd be funny and interesting to watch but now I feel that he is seriously threatening my womanhood. I like to think that the ownership of ovaries and boobs are responsible for my intuition and god's way of saying that I should have some cooking skills. Call it sexist but I like cooking for people and I'm looking forward to cooking for my future family. Well, I was until I saw these videos. This dude is not joking around! He's serious when it comes to cooking! I could never deal with a dude that cooks better than I do, and definitely not at the degree he does! My little oven stuffer roaster would look like complete crap next to anything he made. He makes dishes I can't even pronounce let alone entertain the idea of attempting to cook. There are wood chips involved in some of them. Wood chips. He might as well punch me in the ovaries and then make a sandwich. He does make sandwiches by the way. With awesome ingredients I wouldn't even think of using. So thanks Garrett Weber-Gale. I'm sure you're super fertile and great at doing laundry, too. Check out this video of him making shrimp etouffee (and feel your ovaries shrink inside of you)

The cool thing about GWG (aside from the fact that he can shrink your ovaries through a computer screen) is that, unlike some of our other swimmer loves, he does seem to care about nutrition. Apparently Michael Phelps has not gotten this memo. I'm pretty sure he drinks a bottle of Crisco with breakfast every morning. But hey, different strokes for different folks. Hey, I said strokes - that's sort of like a swimming joke! Not really. Anyway, we hope once Michael Phelps stops swimming he starts thinking about nutrition like our friend Mr. Weber-Gale because we don't want him to end up like big fat fatty Ian Thorpe. He got fat since he retired! Hey, I'm no bathing beauty but I never was so I can say it. Thorpe was fierce and now he's just a big ol' fatty! As Valeria pointed out, he used to be the Thorpedo and now he's just a flotation device. Watch it Phelps. We know you're on the box but, stay off of those club crackers.

Or guest Jeff informed me that none other than Rap Star and OTL of Ryan Lochte, Lil Wayne currently has a blog on ESPN.com. Of course we absolutely love reading Reezy's blog on the air but he hasn't really written that many - so we're trying to stretch those puppies out. Today, we decided to read some of Weezy's blogs instead (being that lil Wayne is Reezy's favorite rapper and ultimate man crush, we didn't think he'd mind.) The theme music to Masterpiece Theater is reserved only for Lochte's genius writings, so we went for something a little different in a segment we like to call "Weezy's Blogs read to the sounds of Mark Mothersbaugh." During the segment Lil Wayne gave us insight into his first experience at a major league baseball game which, in his opinion, was "nothing short of amazing" and he told us what he thought of Jose Conseco: "I just like to replay the baseball bouncing off his head." Wise words from a wise man.

Don't forget to check out the video messages we've left for you in our blipBack in the sidebar! And tune in monday night at 7pm EST at wecb.emerson.edu for the next show

It's Election Day!

Man, oh man! It's finally here! Can you believe it? Well you better! You better get your butt to those polls! And get there fast cause there are some crazy long lines at most polling locations. I'm only 21 so saying that this is the most historic election of my lifetime probably doesn't mean much but I think a lot of people are saying that too so it must be true. I voted absentee since I'm in college and still registered back in my home state of NY (represent!) so I feel a little left out of the thrill. It's not quite the same when bubbling in a bunch of circles sitting at your desk - just feels like standardized testing. Plus you don't to do it on the same day as everyone else. So it's sort of like being the kid who gets taken out of the room during standardized tests. Not so fun.

Song suggestion for the occasion:
If I Had a Hammer - Peter, Paul & Mary

I didn't play it on the show cause it's pretty folk-y (wasn't sure if you guys would go for that) but it's got a great message that's definitely still relevant today. And...I suppose I'm a bit of a hippy at heart. You know, wanting peace, love, freedom and all that stuff.

Getting back the election, there has been a slew of internet campaigns for voting this year (lots of celebrities that are much richer and prettier than you telling you why you should vote and for who) but I think the BEST one I have found is this one I'm bringing to you from the kids of Ron Clark Academy. They took TI's song "Whatever You Like" and re-worked the lyrics to make it about voting. Y'all know I have a serious crush on TI so it just makes me love this video even more. This tune has been stuck in my head all day and I don't want to be the only one. Check it out.

See! You can vote however you like! And if you do, you can get a free coffee at Starbucks, a free doughnut at Krispy Kreme and a free ice cream scoop at Ben and Jerry's. Don'tcha just love Democracy?

P.S. There's also a great version of "However You Like" where the kids actually perform the song for TI. Check it out here

And now to the good stuff:

Another great night with the ladies of OYTD. Candace revealed that Jeahmaica's population has recently increased. That's right, Candace's roommate is now a proud resident of the sunny island. This girl, who shall remain nameless - we'll call her "K Force 1" - has always expressed a fondness for the backstroker but she's never been the type to get into these celebrity crushes the girls of OYTD are so fond of - not that that never stopped Candace from sharing her obsessions with her. So the other night I was showing her this wonderful video where the Speedo athletes are unveiling the LZR and being interviewed by Mo Rocca (whose humor is obviously going over his pretty little head) After viewing the video I explain how the suits are a bit awkwardly designed because the lining seems to accentuates certain areas - now I'm sure this is done for athletic purposes but it's basically like putting a giant arrow saying "crotch this way." Anyway, in order to show her how the suit awkwardly frames the swimmers' bodies, I showed her a picture of Lochte from the back - she was very pleased with this image; saying over and over what a nice ass he had. I have to agree but I must say I was surprised by this reaction. Now I don't know at which point this occurred but I distinctly remember her telling me that "If I ever met Ryan Lochte, I would jump him." Can't say I blame the girl. Can you? Honestly I think if any of us had the upper body strength and guarantee of no federal charges, we'd do the same. Anyway, she later explained that she usually doesn't like men who are that muscular but he was an exception... or perhaps, exceptional. I know she likes Matthew Matthew McConaughey and if we've learned anything from Gold Medal Mel it's that Ryan Lochte is the Matthew McConaughey of swimming so it kind of makes sense. Anyway, I knew she really had it bad when I began watching yet another video of the Florida boy and just the mere sound of his voice prompted her to scoot to my side of the couch so she could share in the glory. So "K Force 1" I'd like to officially welcome you to Jeahmaica. Where the sun is always shining, and the boys are always... well... hot.

Guess who was in Massachusetts this weekend? Lochte! Guess who didn't see him? Me! That's right. Lochte and I were in the same state and did not cross paths. It's just something I've come to accept. To me, he is mystical creature who I shall never see in real life. Heather said he's my unicorn. Sigh... I suppose he is.Also, it seems like we've only found one picture of him from the event. EPIC FAIL MASSACHUSETTS. Is there only one photographer in the entire state?!

We can't believe the election is tomorrow. It seems like it's taken forever to get here and at the same time it seems crazy that it's so close! In honor of this historic election we played this great video clip of Mos Def telling us what he would do if he were lucky enough to be elected President. He's got some great ideas including eliminating the Electoral College, lowering taxes and making America cool again (for real!) Check out the video here:

Don't forget to vote tomorrow. It might be crowded so bring a book, a magazine or a boom box! Have a voting party!

Nick Jonas is NOT 16. Okay maybe he is but I simply refuse to believe it. Just look at this kid! When I was in High School I never knew anyone that looked this good. Candace's roommate thinks she may have problem because she has a crush on Nick Jonas and on a 17 year old Josh Brolin. In her defense, she only rented The Goonies because she thought Josh Brolin looked especially attractive when hosting SNL in October and wanted to see some of his past movies. Since she had never seen The Goonies it seemed like a good choice. Now, Candace must have been far past her prime Goonies age because this film fully creeped her out and was far less enjoyable than she had hoped. All she could think about was how Corey Feldman was far too mature for his age and that that poor kid Data was a sad stereotype of character (even if slightly amusing) Also, the bats had very visible string attached to them. Anyway, getting back to the Josh-Brolin-teenager-attraction thing - I would argue that Candace is attracted to a 40 year old Josh Brolin and simply commenting on the fact that he has been attractive since the age of 17. It's more of a retrospective view of sorts. Just seeing a 17 year old Josh Brolin without seeing the hot 40 year old version might not prompt the same reaction. She's not creepy ok?! Nick Jonas is just a freak of nature. A 16 year old boy should not have perfect hair and cut lines - it's just not right! Call me in 2 years, Nick.

On a more serious note, we're sad to report that Barack Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, passed away today. We know that she was a very important part of his upbringing and this must be a very difficult time for the Obama family. We watched him give his an address at a North Carolina rally and he was obviously grief stricken. He wiped away (what we thought were) a few tears and we couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. It's like seeing your dad cry for the first time. We both look up to him so much and it's very difficult to see him go through this - especially now. "Obama Daily" posted some pictures which depicted what we had suspected when watching his address. He was, indeed, crying and as sad as that makes us it also makes us want this victory even more. We wish them all the strength to get through this difficult time and hope for much happier news tomorrow. Apparently, Mrs. Dunham voted absentee - we're glad she got the chance to vote for her grandson and hopefully the next President of the United States.

In lieu of gifts they have asked that well wishers "donate to any worthy organization in search of a cure for Cancer." Most cancer research foundations give you the option of donating in someone's name so you can honor a loved one with your donation. Candace's suggestion is to give to the Danny Federici Melanoma Fund but there are so many worthy organizations out there; you can really do your research and find the one that's right for you. If you'd like, you can send your condolences by signing Mrs. Dunham's guest book here
Note: For anyone wondering, the picture previously posted of Obama at the rally yesterday was taken down - not by request but out of respect. You can still view it at "Obama Daily" but I didn't think it had a place here. We were very moved by his display of emotion but do not want to exploit that in any way. We're just not that kind of blog.

Vote in our latest poll!

Hey y'all! I know it took us crazy long to come up with a new poll idea but we've finally got a new one up. I was inspired by the mixed reaction to the idea of Barack Obama buying up all that air time for his 30 minute special. Now that it's actually aired I'd like to know what you thought of it. Good? Bad? Did you skip it altogether and watch Pushing Daisies instead? That Ned is quite the cutie... Let us know!

BALLIN!

Oh, and don't forget to vote in the Presidential election this Tuesday, November 4th, if you're registered. We like to talk about Obama a lot on our show but, no matter who you're supporting in this election, you should exercise your right to vote. So many people around the world don't have a choice in who their leaders are so don't take it for granted. Plus those voting booth lever things seem like a lot of fun to play with!

P.S. We just put up our blipBack in the sidebar. You can use it to leave us video comments if you have a webcam or a camera phone. Camera phone messages can be sent to us at OhYesTheyDid@blipback.com

1. Maria - Blondie
2. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
3. Surrender - Cheap Trick
4. I'm Into Something Good - Herman's Hermits
5. Starman - David Bowie
6. Don't Bring Me Down - ELO

We'd love to know what you think of our music selections. What you love/hate, what you want to hear more/less of. E-mail us at OhYesWECB@gmail.com and let us know!

Well tonight was, as always, fun filled and full of sass (precisely 50% less sass because our lady Valeria couldn't make it to the show and Candace was flying solo for the evening.) The first topic of discussion was a story put out by Page 6 of the New York Post claiming that Michael Phelps was paid a hefty 100,000 buckaroos to swim laps at some cougar's pool party. Now when I imagine this I think of a woman with really big hair, leathery, tanning bed skin and a botoxed face - but that's just me. Anyway considering the price tag, Candace thought that while, yes, this was a pretty ridiculous sum of money to pay Michael Phelps to do what he does anyway, it was a pretty sweet deal on the part of Michael Phelps because he's getting paid to do what he does anyway! If someone offered me $100,000 to drink Diet Coke and fall asleep in moving vehicles I'd sure as hell take it. Others were more critical. Michael K of D listed said "If you're going to pay that bitch 100 grand to do a few strokes he'd better do it naked and on top of you." Can't really argue with that...Whether or not this whole pool party story ts true, we can't be too sure. It was, after all, published in the New York Post and for those of you who don't know this is a "newspaper" written at a third grade reading level and chock full of spelling errors. If it is true, props to that lady because I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to have Michael Phelps as their poolboy.

Can you believe it's Halloween already? Wasn't it just August? Well around here on OTYD we like to keep the Olympic spirit alive. Apparently one of our listeners is dressing up like our man Reezy for Halloween! Sounds like a lot of fun. Just don't get drunk and do the backstroke on the dance floor. I'll bet Michael Phelps will be a popular Halloween costume this year because a) he's one of the most famous people in the universe right now and b) the costume would cost just about nothing because you'd be practically naked. We're in a recession, people! Make those costumes at home! For any of us who watch The Office we know how easy it is to make Olympic Medals out of yogurt lids so that's a start.
Speaking of finances, supposedly our Olympic peeps are not getting as many endorsement deals as expected because nobody has any dough. I guess that sucks, but Phelps doesn't seem to have a problem. Nobody can get a damn job and he's all over the place. He's got an endorsement deal with everybody. He's kind of like that kid on Halloween that hits up all the good houses first, gets all the good candy and all that's left for the other kids are the bags of pennies. Michael has all the candy and everyone else has pennies! Share the candy, Michael. You don't need all those Snickers. I'm sure Cullen Jones would like a delicious candy treat, too.

Getting back to the Reezy train, Candace did another theatrical reading from Ryan Lochte's blog. This entry was especially amusing because it contains the sentence "i know i know i am a dummy." His words, not mine. It also had plenty of "jeahs." Candace was complimented on her delivery of the phrase and felt compelled to share how it's really done, Reezy style. In this video, Lochte wins the perseverance award from the Golden Goggles. After giving what I'm sure is an unintentionally funny speech, he lets out a "JEAH!" with a passion and fervor rarely seen. Lochte makes his way to the stage at 2:00

Breaking news was revealed on today's show. Candace may have a gigantic crush on Cullen Jones. After some serious discussion about the swimmer on monday's show (and subsequent facebook stalking) her heart has grown fond of the boy from New Jersey - and being from New Jersey just makes him cuter. Not to take anything away from how significant his accomplishments are but he is a cutie pie! He has the most squeezable cheeks I have ever seen and unlike Reezy and Phelps, he has style. That's right! I know it's shocking that someone on the USMOST can dress well but he actually does. As my friend Ted would say, Cullen is splashin - no pun intended.

With the election only 6 days away there was no way a chance to talk about Obama could be passed up. Tonight Obama will broadcast a 30 minute "informercial" of sorts on several major networks including NBC, FOX, Univision and CBS. Now I don't know what the content of this thing will be but if it's anyting like a real infomercial, Candace is down. She revealed on the show that she absolutely loves infomercials - and she wasn't being ironic. She searched for "paid programming" on her channel guide at night. Her favorites include infomercials for knives, the Magic Bullet, The Showtime Rotisserie and all those music compilations. Maybe Obama will do a little "set it and forget it" action.

On the subject of Obama, one of the links in our blog is to the community "Obama Daily." This community uploads new photos of Obama... daily (get it?) Anyway, while surfing around this afternoon Candace discovered "Obama on the Road!" a collection of photos resembling Travelocity's "Roaming Gnome" in which an Obama action figure travels across California and takes pictures at interesting locations. The pictures are cute and sometimes, oddly touching. Check out the collection here.

Breaking News: Candace has a crush on TI and now he's going to jail. Why didn't anyone tell her about this? Also, why didn't anyone tell her that he has 6 children? That's a lot of kids! Now normally, I have pretty good judgment when it comes to men and I would say hey, that dude with 6 kids whose going to jail for possession of firearms... probably not for me. But TI is just so charming in interviews! In his interview with Tyra Banks he revealed that he has two 7 year old children that are NOT twins. "How is this possible?" you might ask. Well according to TI one child was born in March and one was born in June. Tyra responded by calling him a "playa playa" he quickly corrected her by saying he was simply "single single." Oh TI... I'll be your baby Mama.

Finally I'd like to address a serious problem. On ONTD_O someone posted this picture of MP that garnered some reactions that I was not pleased with. Ladies, PLEASE get a hold of yourselves! I know it's Michael Phelps but are you so blinded by your love that you cannot see how laughable this picture is?! I saw various comments claiming how "sexy" this picture was and how they were "drooling" over it. Um... are we looking at the same picture?! This straight up cheesy. It looks like a reject from a romance novel cover shoot. He has his pants unzipped, a crisp white button down (with cuffs so over sized it looks like he borrowed the shirt from his father) and a fan blasting it open and away from his chest. This may be the most un-sexy thing I have ever seen in my natural born life. This is the definition of "trying too hard." And why is he smiling at me? WHY?! Is he pleased with himself? Because he shouldn't be. I am horrified and embarrassed for him. I don't want to see any more pictures like this. You're better than this, Michael Fred!

Also, Candace announced that the ladies of OYTD are planning on attending Gold Medal Mel's birthday party and are super psyched about it! They're also planning on pulling a mission impossible and sneaking into the Golden Goggles - but this is far less likely to happen because a) Candace is afraid of authority and b) well.. doing that just sounds scary.

Shout out to Kevin and Khellie of "It's Your ECB" for having me on as their special guest today. Check out their show Wednesdays from 2-4pm. They have a guest DJ on every week!

UPDATE: Very exciting news! Crystal suggested we set up some sort of voicemail system so you guys could leave us messages. Well... we couldn't exactly figure that out but we signed up for blipBack so if you're so inclined you can leave us video comments! We really do appreciate you guys reading the blog and listening to the show so we'd love to hear from you. Check out our blipBack in the side bar ---------> (just go a little further up)

Volunteer For Your Candidate!

If you tuned into tonight's show, then you'll know that Valeria made a little surprise appearance at the very end, offering some teases about what y'all can expect on Monday night.  Well, after the show ended, the two of us headed over to the Deval Patrick Committee Offices over on Court Street (55 Court St. Suite 310 - in case you wanna check it out).  We arrived with one objective, and one objective only - to put our money where our mouth is.  Basically, we took our love for Obama, and translated it into roughly an hour of volunteering (it's all it takes people!).

But before we get to what happened once we were there, it should be noted that on our way we walked by the storefront of the McCain Victory Boston HQ on Tremont Street (across from the Park Street T Stop and next to McDonald's).  Surprisingly, there were a whole bunch of people inside, which was nice to see, as their office is usually empty as hale. So, it's good to see that they're trying to keep up with Obama's campaign.

Sidenote: this is me, Valeria, trying to sound as objective as possible.  In reality, I know that McCain doesn't stand a chance.

Let's just start out by saying that the Deval Patrick offices are maaaaaaad nice.  Behold their slick combination of campaign memorabilia, bright colors, and art deco.

DUDE - I WANT TO WORK IN THIS OFFICE SO BAD! I WOULD GO TO WORK EVERYDAY IF THIS IS WHAT MY BUILDING LOOKED LIKE

So, because Candace is a bit more shy than Valeria, she did some data entry while Valeria made some calls to New Hampshire voters.  But hey, don't knock it y'all! Data entry is important - all the information collected during phone calls needs to go somewhere!  Also, where do you think they get all the information to make phone calls with? Huh?  Exactly.

sorry that it's blurry - it was taken with a phone

So while Candace did some data entry, Valeria made some phone calls.  Most people won't home, or just really didn't want to talk with her.  But there were two really great calls.  The first one was a 72 year old man who explained that he had voted Democratic all his life, then continued to speak about how he doesn't like to vacation in Costa Rica, because even though they have really good PR for tourism, it's still a third-world country (his words, bbs).  But he was very much informed about New Hampshire politics.  The second memorable phone call was with a 70ish year old woman, who had just finished battling cancer and just ended her chemotherapy treatment.  When asked if she wanted an absentee ballot to vote, she was adamantly responded with a "No."  She was going to make it to the polls, so that she could vote for her Obama.  Basically, she was adorable.  All my prayers and hopes are with her, and I hope her will wins out and helps her beat cancer and that she makes it to the polls around the corner from her home in November.

The night ended with some sweet swag.

Moral of the story? Volunteering = free stuff.

Debate Tonight!

Hey Y'all!

Now, I know that it isn't the purpose of Oh Yes They Did! to get all serious on you, but the fact remains that in this celebrity culture, politicians have become celebrities of their own (even you John McCain!).  I mean, The Bidens, Obamas, McCains, and Palins (and of course the Clintons) have graced the covers of glossies and weekly tabloids alike, and everybody is all up in there business.
I mean, seriously, think about it.  Cindy McCain used to be a pill-popper, John McCain was accused of having a child (a black one at that) out of wedlock - actually his adopted daughter, Michelle Obama is on the list of the Internationally Best Dressed, Sarah Palin's teenage daughter is pregnant, and Joe Biden . . . well, he's the boring one of the bunch.  Is it any wonder that we're so fascinated?
Anyways, the point of tonight's post is to serve as a little reminder about Debate #2.  Tonight, it's a town hall meeting with the two presidential candidates, and I'm absolutely, positively sure that all the questions will be unexpected and new (read: planted questions).  But, it's apparently part of your (not mine, cuz I'm not American yet) duty as a citizen to participate in democracy and try to not fall asleep during the debate.

PS.  If you're not registered to vote yet - GET ON THAT!  Go to maps.google.com/vote to find out if you've missed the deadline to register and how to apply for an absentee ballot - the deadlines are fast approaching.
