here fast cause there are some crazy long lines at most polling locations. I'm only 21 so saying that this is the most historic election of my lifetime probably doesn't mean much but I think a lot of people are saying that too so it must be true. I voted absentee since I'm in college and still registered back in my home state of NY (represent!) so I feel a little left out of the thrill. It's not quite the same when bubbling in a bunch of circles sitting at your desk - just feels like standardized testing. Plus you don't to do it on the same day as everyone else. So it's sort of like being the kid who gets taken out of the room during standardized tests. Not so fun.Song suggestion for the occasion:
If I Had a Hammer - Peter, Paul & Mary
I didn't play it on the show cause it's pretty folk-y (wasn't sure if you guys would go for that) but it's got a great message that's definitely still relevant today. And...I suppose I'm a bit of a hippy at heart. You know, wanting peace, love, freedom and all that stuff.
Getting back the election, there has been a slew of internet campaigns for voting this year (lots of celebrities that are much richer and prettier than you telling you why you should vote and for who) but I think the BEST one I have found is this one I'm bringing to you from the kids of Ron Clark Academy. They took TI's song "Whatever You Like" and re-worked the lyrics to make it about voting. Y'all know I have a serious crush on TI so it just makes me love this video even more. This tune has been stuck in my head all day and I don't want to be the only one. Check it out.
See! You can vote however you like! And if you do, you can get a free coffee at Starbucks, a free doughnut at Krispy Kreme and a free ice cream scoop at Ben and Jerry's. Don'tcha just love Democracy?
P.S. There's also a great version of "However You Like" where the kids actually perform the song for TI. Check it out here
